Georgie's Top 5 Tips for Looking After Your Hair Extensions

Beautiful extensions are an investment — and like anything precious, they last longer when you treat them well. Our hair extensions specialist Georgie shares her top five tips for keeping your length looking salon-fresh between appointments.

1. Brush smart, not hard

Use a soft-bristle extension brush (or a looper) and always start at the ends, working your way up to the bonds. Hold the hair at the root with your free hand to take tension off the attachment points. Brush morning, night, and before washing — never when soaking wet.

2. Wash less, wash properly

Aim for two to three washes a week max. Use a sulphate-free, pH-balanced shampoo and lukewarm water. Smooth the shampoo down the lengths — don't scrub or pile hair on top of your head. Condition mid-length to ends only, keeping product away from the bonds.

3. Always sleep with dry hair

Going to bed with damp extensions is the fastest way to matting at the roots. Rough-dry the bonds first, then air-dry or blow-dry the lengths. Plait your hair into a loose braid before bed and switch to a silk or satin pillowcase — it dramatically reduces friction and tangling.

4. Heat protect, every time

Even one round of heat without protection breaks down the cuticle. Spritz a quality heat protectant through the lengths before any styling, and keep tools at 180°C or below. Avoid clamping straighteners anywhere near the bonds.

5. Book your maintenance on time

Tape-ins want a move-up every 6–8 weeks, micro weaves every 8–10 weeks. Stretching past your re-fit window puts strain on your natural hair and risks matting. A quick in-salon treatment at every visit also keeps the hair glossy, hydrated and behaving beautifully.

One last thing from Georgie

Treat your extensions like the luxury they are — gentle hands, the right products, regular maintenance. Do that and you'll get every glorious week out of them. Any questions? Message the salon and I'll happily talk you through it.
